CHAPTER 7:
"God
Only Knows" (Chapter 7 - Writing is Re-writing)
CHAPTER 9:
"In
the Key of Love" (Chapter 9 - Critical Thinking:
song #3)
"Alive
and Well" (Chapter 9 - Critical Thinking:
Song #4)
Composer's note: This particular demo was something of
an experiment for me - to see if I could take a song that had
been recorded in a very traditional Christian Country sort of
way and make it a Latin rock thing. The two artist versions
of this song sound nothing like this demo. But the words,
the melody and the song form remain unchanged. Only the
groove and the chord changes were altered. (RS)
"Take
Me Down" (Chapter 9 - Critical Thinking: song
#5)
Composer's note: This is the original (programmed) demo
of "Take Me Down." It includes the 4th verse,
which was later omitted from the song when it was recorded and
put into a choral piece.
"Love
Is the Better Way" (Chapter 9 - Critical Thinking:
song #7)
"The
Ballad of Lupe" (Chapter 9 - Critical Thinking:
song #9)
Composer's note: This recording is from the CD "Everybody
Needs a Hat" by Aunt Cindy Rose and Friends. If you've
got a 4 year old in your house - it''ll be a big hit.

CHAPTER 10:
"So
Worthy" (Chapter 10 - "Building a Demo")
Composer's note: While this recording was built using
the lead sheet/chord chart from Chapter 10, notice that we made
some alterations to the "road map" while in the studio.
The intro and the outro have both been doubled in length.
And we added a repeat chorus at the end. These sorts of
changes are not uncommon when you get to the recording process.
And though the lyric remained unchanged - it is not all that
unusual to make final "tweaks" in the lyrics in the
studio if you determine a line isn't singing the way you envisioned
it - or if perhaps a last minute improvement comes to mind.
